Job Title:  Machine Control Apprentice

Job Summary: 

The Machine Control Apprentice will assist in the setup, operation, and maintenance of Trimble Machine Control Systems used in heavy civil construction equipment. This role provides hands-on experience with the latest technology in machine automation and control, working closely with experienced grade control specialists to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of excavation, grading, and paving operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in setting up, calibrating, and operating GPS and other machine control systems on heavy equipment (e.g., dozers, graders, excavators).
  • Learn and perform basic troubleshooting, maintenance, and updates to machine control systems.
  • Support the machine control specialist in ensuring project specifications are met through precise grading and excavation.
  • Assist with data collection and input into machine control systems, including downloading, analyzing, and utilizing site-specific data.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment and properly handle all equipment.
  • Learn to interpret civil construction plans and translate them into machine control programs.
  • Observe and adhere to all safety protocols on-site to ensure a safe working environment.

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or related coursework in construction technology is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of civil construction processes and equipment is preferred but not required.
  • Interest in learning new technology, specifically in machine control systems.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and construction environments.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and take direction from experienced professionals.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to precision.
  • Effective communication skills and a proactive attitude towards learning.
